Lake Nottely Blairsville GA

Explore Lake Nottely

Lake Nottely, one of the splendid reservoirs managed by the Tennessee Valley Authority, is situated entirely in Union County, surrounded by the picturesque Chatahoochee-Oconee National Forests. Its creation dates back to 1942 when the Nottely River was dammed, resulting in a remarkable 20-mile extension upstream to the charming town of Blairsville.

The construction of Nottely Dam commenced in 1941 and was successfully completed the following year. A noteworthy fact is that approximately 70% of the lake's shoreline falls under the jurisdiction of the United States Forest Service, remaining undeveloped and preserving its natural splendor.

For a memorable experience, consider renting pontoon boats and kayaks to explore this remarkable resource in North Georgia. Vogel State Park is a 233-acre state park located at the base of Blood Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest. It became one of the first two parks in Georgia when it founded a state park system in 1931

The park features streams, a waterfall, and Lake Trahlyta. At 2,500 feet elevation it is one of Georgia's highest altitude state parks.

Vogel include full connection camp sites as well as cabins for rent.

Trahlyta Falls is located directly below the lake and is a stepping stone waterfall. The walking trail is a 1 mile loop - short and steep but should be on your to do list!

Butternut Creek Golf Course

Butternut Creek Golf Course plays through rolling valleys and up challenging slopes with mountain views from all 18 holes. Each hole is unique – none remotely similar to another. A Bill Watts design, Butternut Creek plays to a modest 6,500+ yards, but 4 to 6 tee boxes on every hole give challenging options for every player. Water comes into play on 13 holes and mounds, undulating greens, and elevation changes are found throughout the course.
